The City of Salem and Mayor Justin Green recently announced the Mayor’s 2020 Christmas Card Contest. Though the annual art contest is typically done through the art classes at Salem Community Schools, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the traditional program was cancelled.
The Mayor wanted to give an opportunity for kids to participate in the contest despite not physically being in school. “I think it is important to continue this tradition as best we can during the pandemic. I know students in the past have enjoyed submitting their wonderful artwork to the City to be considered and displayed in city hall and wanted to provide a way for them to do that,” said Mayor Green.
Students who reside in the city of Salem and who are between the ages of 5 and 14 years old can enter the contest. One winner will be chosen by the Mayor and the winning artwork will be placed on display in City Hall. The winner will also receive a $50 gift card from Walmart and a voucher for a free pizza. Christmas and holiday cards of all types will be accepted.
“I do hope a lot of students will participate. I think it will be a great activity for kids to do while they are at home on e-learning and to get us all in the spirit of Christmas during this difficult year,” added Mayor Green.
